Due to my fascination with science fiction, the essay on H.G. Wells was incredibly useful. Wells was not only a product of his time as a writer, and a person, he was a socialist darwinist member of the Fabian society – supporters of the Labour party. Wells’s abilities as a writer cemented the use of science fiction as a means of social commentary as well as his impressive track record of predictions of technological advancement causing war in his ‘Future War’ stories. This essay highlights Well’s contribution to the way in which Science Fiction has been used to guide society, which I personally can be seen demonstrated in the way Science Fiction television such as the original Star Trek series correctly predicted mobile phone technology.
